Visitor - Derrick Dance GM4CXP.
Warning! This man is possibly the fastest key on earth!
Derrick in his other mode during a visit to the "Eildon Shack
Bar" - The fastest beer bottle err Key.. in the west.
The sadly now demolished shack
and antenna farm at Maxton Station, former home of nearest ham
neighbour, Derrick Dance GM4CXP. Derrick was a well known key
on VHF in the 70's and 80's. He is now based in Kelso. Picture
was taken on a strange and misty winter dusk in 1993. The array
on the left were 4m and 6m. The central ones are a 23cm, 2m Para
Beam and a 70cm beam. Derrick was one of Scotlands most active
operators in the 70's and his logs featured regularly in radio
publications.
Colin Cook GM0VHR in his shack near Jedburgh in the
Scottish Borders.
Colin Cook along with Mr Dance are two of my oldest
friends. Colins patience while visiting the shack is amazing.
The amount of times I have forgotten to plug in a cable, sending
us on a wild goose chase searching for a fault that never existed
not to mention endless confusion caused by myself while calculating
antenna feeder or line lengths etc. Colin has a natural flaire
for fixing odds n ends and has repaired many of the stations ill
bits n bobs.

Old friends from the days of CB. Still a big voice
across Northumberland, Cumbria, North Yorkshire, large parts of
Scotland and goodness knows where else! John Row Aka 'Hillbilly'
(C) and his wife Eileen (R) Me (L) live in an idillic cottage
on one of the North of Englands highest and most retmote moores.
His signal on 27Mhz dwarfs all. A gem of a couple.
Lisa. The XYL MM3LYD. Some Hams have a terrible time
enjoying their hobby. Their passion for radio not being shared
by their partner. I am one of the lucky ones. While I spend almost
90% of my spare time in the shack, Lisa, who is an MS Nurse, never
complains about anything. Meals are made, washing is done, shopping
is gathered, coffee is supplied, visiting Hams fed. Yet, she never
complains. Not even about getting disturbed by your truly climbing
into bed a 5am! I have more freedom than most that I know when
it comes to this hobby and grateful I am. So, here is a toast
to all those ladies who support the men in this mad hobby.
DX chaser Kelvin Norris 2E0KTZ / MM3JOV 'Jolly Old
Vicar'. Kelvin is another long time radio friend and also a former
business partner from the music business.
Iain Montgomery "Monty"

Last but not least. 'Dug' The Dog our gorgeous 8 year
old (2004) Border Collie. Dug wanders around following me on my
regular antenna building experiments. He never complains either!
Not exactly a friend but I have tried to contact Khan
so many times I feel I know him well.. actually made the first
contact in 2004. Also Masaru JA5AQC who went out of his to listen
for me. It's hard to see and hard to believe but look very closely
at the photo and dream! :-) The QTH of 7J4AAL Khan.
