21:35 UTC March 21st 2004. Looking
for and bagged.. 3B9C (Rodriguez Island of east African coast
in Indian Ocean) on 80 meter band (3.795Mhz)!
Sitting at the rigs for hours
can be a very taxing time both mentally and physically. I find
that it is best to use high quality headsets. It makes listening
to all that noise out there a lot less tiring and it's so much
easier to pull out the weak DX when you can actually hear! At
the moment the station uses Heil ProSet Plus.
3B9C was essentially the first
serious attempt at DX'ing. In the past it was a hit or miss affiar
and I worked whatever was on the band when I turned the radio
on. I guess this is still the case a lot of the time for most
of us, but it really helps to read the DX news around the world,
know band conditions and learn about propagation.
