Calling for 7J4AAl and JA5AQC

Working Japan (JA) can be a very hard task in Scotland GM or MM). Even though the signals can be very strong to hear, they only peak for around 30 minutes from the north east in the evening on 80 meters and just about sunrise in winter in Scotland. The main problem in working back to them at night here is, the huge wall of European stations who can run 1000 Watts or more if they run 'Four Square' antenna array's (4 vertical masts, in a square) that is even worse. The JA stations cannot hear you through the noise of these stations simultaneously calling the JA operator. By the time Europe has had it's fun, the signals from Japan have already started to sink in strength as their sun begins to rise attenuating their transmitter power up in the ionosphere. It is essential to have good receiving antennas for this type of DX.
