The new station is optomised for DX hunting (global
communication and contacting rare stations) and uses separate
receive and transmit systems. The main receivers are two FT-901DM's.
One for 160m and one for 80m. Why use old radios? (Read
here). These are connected to Beverage antennas and a switchable
K9AY rx loop system.
The main transmitters are an FT-1000MP Mk5 and a Icom
756Pro2 which are routed through 3 amplifiers for 120m,80m and
40m (2 Heatherlite Explorers and a Kenwood TL922). The reason
I use separate amps for each band is that it each amp is permaently
tunned for each band which eliminates set-up time changing frequency
when DX pops up. I can monitor all 3 bands simultaniously. Also
all 3 amps use 3-500Z tubes so spares are not a worry in this
shack.
